Courses

The Model T Ford is a fun and reliable vehicle, but it is different to conventional cars.

If you are a new comer to the "T" or you would like to learn best practice in Driving and Maintenance from a professional, then Tuckett Brothers run a number of courses which can help you, all held at our workshops in North Marston.

As a consequence of the COVID pandemic, we have modified the course format for your best protection.

Model T Driving Course

The new format course will invite you to join Neil for an intensive 3hr driving course. The course will be a single half day course (9.30am meet, for 10am start, until 1pm), with pre-booking and pre-payment essential. We will be offering a 'picnic' lunch included in the price, supplied by either The Bell Hotel, Winslow or The Winslow Deli.

The Model Ts are mainly open to the elements [effectively outside]. Please dress appropriately for the British weather, and our rural yard! A boiler suit is ideal, if you have one.

We will initially be offering these driving course dates:

- Saturday 11th March 2023 / - Saturday 8th April 2023 / - Friday 12th May 2023

This course is designed to teach anyone from the first time driver to the person requiring confidence and practice in a quiet rural surrounding. By the end of the course it is our hope that you will be able to drive a Model T independently, have knowledge of basic everyday maintenance of your Model T, as well as helping you feel more confident navigating your T.

Model T Maintenance Course

The course covers everyday maintenance including oil levels, cleaning timers and goes on to include more detailed work – repair of coils, carburettors, band changing and adjustment. We will ensure you have hands on practice of the most common maintenance and repairs, as well as plenty of opportunities to ask questions. All course notes will be provided to you on the day. We are offering the following course dates:

- Saturday 25th February 2023

Sign Writing Course [NEW FOR 2023!]

For the artists, or budding artists amongst you - we are offering a course in sign writing, instructed by the very talented Rod Gazeley. You'll learn the tricks of the trade in how to create precise lettering and striking sign writing suitable for artworking your ton truck, or perhaps a more intricate feature on your T; perhaps coachlining or creating your very own number plate:

- Date TBC 2023

The course cost (driving or maintenance or sign writing) is £150 per person, and your place is only reserved once payment is received.

Payment details will be sent to you on receipt of your booking email. For the driving course, you must hold a valid UK driving license in order to join the course. All Model Ts used in the course are supplied by us (you don't need to have, or bring your own Model T).

"I attended the course on June 7 this year [2021]. Overall the course is excellent for anyone venturing into Model T or even just interested in veteran motoring. I went along as a Model T was on my shortlist of cars to look at more seriously and so this was a very wise investment. The first part concentrated on the mechanics and general servicing of the car and this was very insightful. Model T's are by no means complicated, but nonetheless you do need to know where to look. Going through this also allowed us to pose questions and become more aware of what to look out for when purchasing or owning a car. The second part was the driving bit. Neil demonstrated it all very well and then it was our turn. After a first drive it was back to the yard to jump into one of several cars that were available. The chance to drive both RHD and LHD was also useful and proved that there was little difference, except the controls get reversed. There are also lots of cars and parts to have a look at so as to wet your appetite for the Model T world. I could not finish without mention of the huge packed lunch, which was lovely and lasted into the following day! In conclusion if you are thinking about getting into veteran motoring then this is a very worthwhile investment. I thought it was going to be good, but it was even better than I imagined. Neil also gives you a booklet with all the information, so no need to take notes." Steve N., Driving Course Attendee, June 2021

“Having booked last year, the excitement got magnified over the long wait of COVID, until at last, the day arrived! [...] WAY beyond my expectations! You are a great ambassador for the Marque. Full of knowledge and enthusiasm. An informative, gentle and interesting teacher, which made it easy to grasp what you were saying. Trusting with a capital T!

I could go on and on but will leave it at that and say, Neil Tuckett, Gentleman, out and out enthusiast, wonderful teacher. . . . Thank You! : )” Paul & Nigel G., Driving Course Attendees, August 2021

"Neil was very generous with his time, knowledge and his cars. I thoroughly enjoyed the course.‎ As well as learning about the mechanics of the Model T and how to look after one, there was plenty of opportunity to drive Model Ts of varying ages and design. I would recommend this course to anyone wishing to learn more about the Model T as a potential buyer, enthusiast or just out of curiosity." Thomas S., Driving Course Attendee, July 2021

"I had been looking forward to such a course for a long time, and when it took place, it did not disappoint! It is always a pleasure to deal with people who are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their subject, and your depth of knowledge and enthusiasm made it a really great day for me..."
